Walking in the Shoes of a Volunteer

Helping those in need continues to be a passion for Lucas and I. Recently we were able to join up with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. AHRC works tirelessly to provide help and research for those with conditions such as; cerebral palsy, epilepsy, neurological impairment, autism and many others.

We volunteered our time to help with food preparation, check in, face painting, and general emotional support at AHRC’s walk for the intellectually/developmentally impaired. I think the thing that made me smile the most was the look on everyone’s face as I handed them a bagel. It was funny to see everyone get as excited for bagels as the walk itself. This really made us realize and appreciate the little things in life.

The AHRC coordinates this walk annually and will be making its rounds this year in Eisenhower Park of East Meadow, New York. If you are interested in volunteering for the walk or would like to know more about the AHRC walk feel free to visit their site linked below.
