Recently I have read the novel Fragments of the Lost by Megan Miranda. This was my first experience with this author and I feel like it will not be the last! The story follows a small town girl named Jessa as she fights nostalgia while cleaning out her late ex-boyfriend Calebs’ room. The only problem is that the pieces of memory lane are not fitting together the way she thought. She now has only a few hours a day to find out what Caleb was hiding and why his best friend Max wanted to get into his room so desperately.
This story is a less than romantic thriller that really tests our perspective of other people and the relationships we have with them. This book is a very easy read and will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to piece everything together. I love these types of stories, the ones that challenge you and when it forces you to look beyond the words. The most amazing thing about this tale is that author, Megan Miranda, actually tells it in reverse chronological order. Showing you the result just before the book actually ends, with a few twists and turns along the way. I feel like this book has made me experience several emotions including love, heartbreak, hope and grief. I mean can you imagine being put in Jessa’s shoes? You are a high school senior, you fall in love, you fall out of love, and then the only person you thought you knew, you find out you knew nothing about? This story is a fantastic find and I would highly recommend anyone who loves a little mystery to read it!
