Happy Monday All! I am so wiped from this weekend, wanna know why? Well if you couldn’t guess by the title it’s okay, like I said, it’s Monday! This weekend was my birthday celebration with all of my friends. It was so amazing to see everyone! We we able to try two amazing restaurants and participate in a Long Island (and other locations but I am in Long Island) tradition called Restaurant Week!
Saturday evening we tried a Mexican restaurant called El Coyote Loco! This is a family owned restaurant that always has fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was fun and lively with beautiful decorations including papel picado which are colorful banners hung from the ceiling across the entire restaurant.
The wait staff were all very friendly and spoke both Spanish and English to make sure they can get exactly what you want. To start off, we absolutely had to get their “buy one get one” Margaritas which were perfectly poured (which is a gem on its own)! They offer complimentary chips and homemade salsa which had just enough spice to clear your palate but not enough to ruin your dinner. We also shared some amazing Guacamole which was great and made fresh! I ordered the Pollo a la Mexicana which was pieces of chicken breast in a white wine and tomato sauce with a little butter and garlic mixed in. Lucas had their chimichangas and said they came out great! It was served with rice and beans and was enough food to bring home for the next days lunch!
Sunday we participated in the Long Island Restaurants Week! This event has been occurring annually since 2006 and bi-annually since 2011. Initially this universal promotion among several Long Island establishments was used to boost traffic during times of the year that are normally less busy, like after holidays and when most people are out on vacation! Over 150 restaurants participate in this event and offer a Pre fixe menu for $28.95 per person for a 3 course meal!
This year we went to Thom Thom Steak and Seafood restaurant. The table all started with Red and White Sangria to cheers. For an appetizer I choose the Black Angus Beef Meatball which was a giant meatball in a small dish of fresh Marinara sauce! Once I ate half of my weight in beef I had the Pan Seared Scottish Salmon with Lemon Dill Beurre Blanc which was served on baby bok-choy, roasted grape tomatoes, kale and fresh corn risotto. Finally, as if we did not eat enough, I finished my birthday dining experience with a Molten Lava cake which was served with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce!
Thank you to anyone who had wished my a happy birthday and to all of my friends I have gone out with who are probably still in a food coma! I cannot wait for the next restaurant week! Let me know in the comments below if you have ever celebrated this week!
Happy belated birthday! Mine was just on Saturday 🙂
